In 2017 we worked alongside Sport Canterbury to facilitate the development of the Canterbury Spaces and Places Plan.

The plan identified the key strategic priorities for sports facilities to then be used as placeholders in the relevant long-term plans. The plan will help in ongoing cross boundary discussions and includes key principles, criteria and prioritisation across the majority of sporting codes. A review of previous regional and national strategies was a key part of this process.

The Plan was adopted by the Christchurch Executive Advisory Group at its December 2017 meeting. Sport Canterbury remain the “guardians” of the Plan and are working on various implementation projects with the various stakeholders.

The project was successful as it utilised a fit-for-purpose methodology, working alongside a motivated Project Group to meet incredibly tight timeframes. This team approach ensured the Plan was robust and gained buy-in across all stakeholders.
