Snow Sports New Zealand (SSNZ) engaged RSL to undertake a feasibility study to determine the potential for developing a dry slope facility for snow sports athletes. It was proposed the dry slope facility would increase the amount of time available for athletes and coaches to access training opportunities.
The feasibility study was aligned with the Snow Sports New Zealand coaching and development framework to ensure a fit for purpose facility was created for high-performance and emerging snow sports athletes.
It was envisaged that the development of the dry slope facility would allow SSNZ athletes to confidently compete on the world stage having enhanced and perfected new skills, potentially giving them an edge over international competitors.
The study involved assessing potential site locations as well as updating the preliminary design, taking into account effective practice, new data and learnings from other dry slope facilities internationally. This resulted in a number of additional infrastructure works being included as part of the updated design. A capital budget for the proposed facility and a preferred ownership and management option were also developed.
Following the completion of the study, funding has been secured and construction confirmed.
