Yesterday was a fantastic day of learning for me (and hopefully others). I worked alongside Dave Tippett and Peter Magson among others to talk through a couple of the recent facility developments in the Selwyn District with those charged with the Spaces and Places portfolio at regional sports trusts in attendance.
It was rewarding to see the growth in the Spaces and Places team, both within Sport NZ and the regional sports trusts, something we dreamed about less than ten years ago. Hats off to Sarah Dunning at Sport NZ for pushing through the need for this area of focus within government and to Jamie Delich for creating the workforce in RST land.
Real time, rather than online time, with everyone was so refreshing - can't wait for the Recreation Aotearoa national conference now. The learning from the development at the Selwyn Sports Centre and the re-development at Lincoln combined nicely to allow us all to realise that there is more than one way to go about developing (and operating) a recreational place. Thanks to Sport New Zealand, in particular Glenn McGovern for the opportunity to connect. I came away from the day buzzing.
